IMU Convocation

Kami dijemput sebagai returning pharmacy graduates from University of Strathclyde.

Mari lihat detik2 bersejarah kami ini. :)

BTN @Kem Bina Negara Kuarters KLIA, Nilai

Well, as planned... finally we have successfully attended a five-day-camp which aimed to increase our spirit of patriotism and get to know Malaysia well especially from the aspect of law, legislation, history and a lot more. Yes, I know that these topic sounds kinda boring but in fact the course works unexpectedly effective!

I came to the camp without any prior detailed knowledge about Malaysia, my own country where I was born and raised from my mother's womb till my age reached 22 yesterday. However, by the time the camp ended, it manages to increase my love for Malaysia and make me wanna protect my country well.

For your information, this wasn't my first Kursus Kenegaraan, but it's the second one. Ewah2, masa jurulatih tanya siapa pernah pergi kursus kenegaraan, haram jadah sorang pun tak angkat tangan, sekarang baru nak mengaku. Hahaha... The first one was conducted at my secondary school, MRSM Beseri and it was called Kursus Asas Kenegaraan. This time, the camp was held at Kem Bina Negara Kuarters KLIA, Nilai. Apart from my 13 batchmates (including me), this course was also joined by students from UniKL MIAT, INTI College and INTEC. Student lain tgh buat pre-university course, tapi kami dah pertengahan Ijazah. Huhuhu, sedih gak la bila terasa diri ini tua. =p

Activities

1. Talk/Ceramah

Total of four talks were given during this course which all focused on Malaysia. The first one was 1 Malaysia concept, then citizen, followed by government and finally kedaulatan. Personally speaking, I think the talks were interesting, informative and not boring as expected especially when the person giving the talk were actively talk, made jokes and their voice is beyond your imagination. Hearing the loud voice gave me no chance to feel drowsy at all.

2. Latihan Dalam Kumpulan (LDK)

We were divided into 6 groups and was assigned to one facilitator. Alhamdulillah, my group got 2 facilitators so our LDK went very well. In the group, we got to know each other very well. We introduced ourselves and got asked so many times by our peers and also from facilitator. Anything we wanna know about him/her, we could just ask on the spot. My groupmates were me and Cipak (IMU), Zamri, Ali, Faqehi, Farah, Nabilah and Aishah (MIAT) and Shun (INTI).

Activities done includes takruf, informative games, presentation, and some kind of explorace. Most of the activities requires us to think critically and wisely. During the final night, my group performed Malaysia Berjaya song. Though it was a very simple performance, I was glad we did well.

For the final activity, each group was given a coloured cloth and we were assigned to create a logo symbolises our group. The were several rules; we cannot walk on two feet, cannot talk, cannot take/steal/ask but we can give. At first, I was blank. What to do for the logo? Then, I observed the surrounding and watched one by one group merged together in the middle of the hall. What they did was actually combining the four coloured cloths forming a Malaysia flag. I was touched.

The finale was concluded withthe combination of small groups into just a group, the flag was done although not so perfect and finally we were shown a video about Malaysia achievement.

3. Perbarisan/Riadah/ PJK

Every morning and evening, it was a routine for us to march at the marching field. We sang Negaraku, recite oath and also doa.

In order for the contestants to passed the physical test, we were required to do several things. Firstly, a series of exercises such as push up, jump rope, one-leg balance, hold breath and pulse rate. Secondly, 2 kilometre run within a given time (18 min for boys and 24 min for girls). I managed to finished the run in 13 min 15 sec. Quite an achievement for a passive guy like me. For physical test, I managed to get 50+ age. Hahaha, nampak sgt tak penah bersukan!

The most exciting activity for me is Kembara. It was simply a hiking. We walked out the camp and hiked the small young forest nearby. We climbed a steep hill, jump over a smelly puddle, walked passed tress and plants and nearly towards the end, the rain suddenly poured down. Bzzzz... So we get wet!

4. Kerohanian (Religious)

It's compulsory to perform Subuh, Maghrib and Isyak prayer at the surau because right after the prayer, kuliah/tayangan will proceed. All of the kuliah were given by Ustaz Zawawi which he is a super duper ridiculously funny person! He made us laugh all the times.

Not forget, we had our kursus pengurusan jenazah as well.

5. Final exam

It's nothing to be worried of. The exam wasn't very hard because the facilitators had give us sufficient information during the talks and LDK although some questions were out of syllabus. I answered the test in 45 min (90 minutes for full time), then I left the hall early.

So, nak tak nak, hirup jela, walaupun akibatnya agak menderitakan. Lights off pukul 12 am ye kawan2.. Macam asrama pulak.

Tapi kelakar tgk gelagat diorg nih.. Especially Ali yang suka usik2 Farah pasal Kpop. Tapi Zamri mmg ketua terbaik!

5 hari tu lama ye, bukannya kejap.

Sebagai konklusinya, BTN best! Malaysia cemerlang, gemilang, terbilang!

Hidup 1 Malaysia!

*ttbe semangat kan!*

Hospital Attachment II

Last week, I attended a three-day hospital attachment at Hospital Tunku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) Klang again. Even though it was just for three days, but I gained a lot of exprience especially regarding drugs and diseases. Some drugs are not even in BNF so I need to check with the internet. Sometimes also, two drugs are combined forming a new name.

I partnered with Bee, luckily the lecturer didn't assigned our partner according to the name list. We managed to clerked about 4 patient, each with different diagnoses and impressions. We started our attachment at 9 am and usually finished at 2-3 pm.

Partner

Case 1
Quite a long and complicated case though. The patient has:
1. sepsis secondaru to DFU (diabetic food ulcer)
2. uncontrolled DM (diabetes mellitus)
3. anaemia
4. hyponatraemia, hyperkalaemia
5. acute renal failure secondary to dehydration

Okay, this case is definitely hard, so we agreed to reject this out.

Case 2
This on was very simple and brief. The patient was simply diagnosed with pneumonia to rule out pulmonary tuberculosis. We were so afraid of getting infected during clerking, so we copy everything from the bed head ticket quickly. However, the patient was discharged in the next day, so we also rejected this case. This case only involves six drugs, so it wasn't enough for our presentation.

Case 3
This case was quite similar with my previous case with Wanji. Anaemia secondary to chronic kidney disease with underlying hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The patient also has fluid overload.

Case 4
Quite an interesting case where the patient was just recover from cerebrovascular accident (stroke) with right side hemiparesis.

bye-bye HTAR

Alhamdulillah, the attachment went very well except we were not assigned to an individual pharmacist like the previous group. So we were not discussing with the pharmacist but with our own lecturers.

Hospital Attachment

Today was my very first attachment that I attended. I didn't know what to expect since I never experienced any working situation in hospital. I was sent to Hospital Tunku Ampuan Rahimah as my attachment place along with other 11 students, which most of them are my besties.

So we departed from IMU at 7.30 am after waiting for Amirah's and Cindy's cars arrived in front of IMU. Thanks Vista B for bersiap2 awal. So I didn't to wait for them for so long. It took about 40 minutes to reach the hospital via KESAS highway with 3 x RM2.20 tolls. The traffic was okay, no jammed at all but the opposite ways showed a high degree of traffic jam.

At 8.20 am, we arrived at the hospital and we all gathered at the supply ward. It's a place where all the drugs are stored. I could see many cabinets filled with tablets and also some freezers which kept the cytotoxic drugs. So of the pharmacists a cutting the labels, doing something at the sinks and some of them were having some sort of discussion. After a short briefing by a local pharmacist, we went to our assigned wards.

future pharmacists.. inshaAllah...

I paired up with my housemate, Wanji and we got to work on an 'anaemia case with advanced renal failure' case. We were quite surprised at first because anaemia wasn't really stressed in our module. I could only remember anaemia briefly which was taught by Dr. Sufyan Akram more than one year ago.

At the ward, we did the clerking process which is merely just copying the information from the BHT into our PCP form. The patient which is a 49 years old female was very friendly. She cooperated with us very well. She got diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart disease and chronic renal failure which leads to anaemia. Poor lady, she doesn't look too old but got a lot of complications.

After we finished with our clerking, we discuss our case with our lecturers in the staff library. They asked some questions and we asked them questions as well. After we found out that we still have a shortage of information, we went back to the ward to question the patient again.

Finally, after we yakin diri with our case, we went out to AEON Bukit Tinggi for lunch. We had our lunch at Papa John's Pizza. Not all joined us, only me, Wanji, Fariz and Fyruz. We had quite a cheesy meal today. Not forget, the cheese tasted weird! I tried the Baked Papa John's which is basically a baked penne bolognaise topped with cheese and meats.. But I really enjoy the Italian Soda Green Apple. It taste better than a normal apple juice.

Relax

Fuhhh, finally the busyness of having two weeks of class tests is now have ended. At least for now. Because I've got DD3 assignment to complete and I haven't started on anything yet. The due date is in the next two weeks.

After CNY breaks also got one more class test, the last one which is PP2. And then we are free. Haha.. Not really free since we will be having end of semester exam in early March.

Currently relaxing myself by watching Pokemon, White Collar and playing several games..

Need to pamper myself more.. Have been so distracted lately especially during test period...

So It Starts

Walllahhhh! Finally after 3 months of holiday, we finally arrived back in IMU safely.

3 months of semester breaks really have rotted my brain. Cannot recalled the things that I've learned from last semester.

FYI, we will be taking 4 subjects in this 14-usual-weeks of class which are:

Biopharmacy 4
Pharmacy Practice 2
Drugs and Disease 2
Drugs and Disease 3

The passing mark for PP2 is 50% while the rest are 40% and good news, we have no lab session in this semester! Only CAL session and several workshops.. So I can keep my lab coat in a plastic wrap and open it next year for our hospital attachment.

There will be a visiting lecturer from Strathclyde and she will be teaching Biopharmacy 4.

Our dean said that we might need to retake IELTS examination because of the new regulation by UK Border Agency. Ishhh, leceh tau! Membazir 100 pound jek!

2nd day of semester 5

One more semester in IMU! Good luck friends!

Ketika Cinta Bertasbih

Kitorang terpaksa tggu smpai habis demi menghormati majlis. Kalau blah awal kang, ada plak yg kata kitorang ni tak support aktiviti kaum2 Melayu ni. Hello... Last year punya event I dah involve ok!

I pun tak amek byk gmbr teater tu since bosan sgt..

Bagus la ko tak pergi Azery, tak berbaloi pun..

EOS is coming and I'm feeling STRESS!!

Oh no no no! It's a big NO!

I'm not a stressful person. Even though I will be having a difficult time (eg: tests, exams etc), I will never let myself stress.

My friends said that I'm a carefree person. Never feels stress about test or exam. It's kinda true. I never show any signs or symptoms of stress in front of my friends. That's because I'm a happy-go-lucky person.

I'm grateful because God created me like this. At least people won't get stress when they see me stress.

Here are some tips how to overcome stress that I found on wikiHow.

  • Quick Relief Stress. Breathe, Smile, Visualize, Evaluate, Fight. ✓ Maybe not Fight!
  • Take a deep breath. This is your first, most immediate defense against stress. If you can get in the habit of pausing and taking a nice, deep breath every time you feel stress beginning to take hold, you'll have won half the battle just by preventing it from taking over. The other half is won by addressing the causes of your stress. ✓ I'm always breathing.
  • Communicate. Whether you talk to a friend or talk to your cat, getting it off your chest will help a lot. If you don't feel like talking about it, write it down. Keep a journal and write down whatever it is that's bothering you. Writing is a therapy of its own. ✓ Talk to family members especially Arissa.
  • Laugh. Rediscover your sense of humor by making fun of your situation. View it from your future self's perspective, telling this story to a bunch of your friends over pizza and soda. Crack some jokes. Do your goofiest impression. Tickle a child that you love. Laughter, whether it's yours or someone else's, is the best medicine--and it's contagious! ✓ Laugh with Arissa.. Watching Arissa can make me laugh =D
  • Get Fit. Perhaps your health and appearance are stressing you out, but even if they're not an issue, being physically fit can directly help relieve stress, which exists on both a mental and a physical level. Sometimes there's nothing like a long run, an intense yoga session, or a fresh swim after a stressful day to help you feel relaxed and stress-free again. Also, exercise releases endorphins; a feel good hormone. Chocolate releases endorphins as well (just only in moderation)! ✘ for execise, Lukman is not around, so I have no jogging partner, ✓ for chocolate!
  • Be Organised. For the most part, stress arises from feeling overwhelmed. There's just too much to do, and not enough time to do it. Being organized and getting your priorities straight can help you break responsibilities down into manageable pieces and focus on the things that really matter to you, rather than getting caught up in details and creating extra work for yourself--all of which leads to more stress. ✘ my desk right now is not organised, quite messy. I didn't make a study timetable as well. So not organised ok!
  • Soothe the senses. Light a scented candle that has a calming fragrance like lavender. Listen to your favorite, most relaxing music or, better yet, go somewhere that you can listen to wind rustle through trees or waves crash on the beach. Enjoy the scenery, whether you're outdoors or viewing an art exhibiton. Drink some warm tea or taste--really taste--some dark chocolate. Treat yourself by getting a massage or, if you want to be alone, take a bath (bubbles are recommended). ✓ for scented aromatherapy, ✓ listening to music, ✘ go somewhere to hear wind rustle through trees of waves, ✘ viewing art exhibition, ✘ drink tea, ✓ drink milo!, ✘ massage, ✓ take a bath twice a day.
  • Be aware of your choices; you always have a choice. ✘ no, I don't have a choice. EOS is compulsory!
  • Learn to say no; you cannot do everything you are asked. ✘ how can i say no to EOS? I can fail what...
  • Learn how to delegate. ✘ I tak paham... haha...
  • Be Thankful. It does wonders for your state of mind. If you need to apologize to someone, and it will not make the situation worse, find a way to do so. More importantly, learn to forgive , particularly to forgive yourself. Guilt adds pain to stress. ✓ Alhamdulillah..
  • Do Nothing. That's right, folks, do nothing at all. Close the door, open the window, have a seat, and take a little break from life. If your mind is racing, learn to meditate and just let that stress go. ✘ cannot do nothing.. got a lot to READ!
  • Listen to music. Listening to music does wonders and is a great way to relieve stress, if it is not something that'll make you feel worse. Listen to good songs that get you in a happy mood; and just forget about your problem. Music is known to be a significant mood-changer and reliever of stress. Ocean sounds tend to simulate calmness and serenity so, listening to a sound machine while lying down could help. ✓ Listening to Kpop and some English songs most of the time..

So to all my friends, GOOD LUCK for EOS4!
7 more days to come!
