Family Visit

I'm so happy that my family is with me right now in Glasgow. But sadly, they will go back to Malaysia tomorrow.. cuk cuk cuk.. ='(

We had a few tour around Glasgow city centre and also I brought my younger brother to the two famous football stadiums in Glasgow which are Celtic Park and Ibrox. We visited University of Glasgow for its splendid architecture, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum plus Scotland Street School Museum which are all reachable by subway train. It's quite worthy since one-day subway pass (Discovery Ticket) only cost us £3.50.

I brought my parents to city centre to shop for some souvenirs. We bought a lot of Twinings Tea at Sainsbury because I heard it is quite famous in UK. So we chose Earl Grey, Peppermint, Raspberry and English Breakfast flavours.

With my brother, I brought him up until River Clyde where we could see Glasgow Science Centre, SECC, and a few bridges along the River Clyde. There are 17 bridges all together crossing the river.

At the stadiums, we just went there to take photos and visit the shop. We didn't enter the stadium tour though. I bought a few pin badges as usual plus postcards and keyrings. Celtic Park is reachable by bus while Ibrox by subway.

University of Glasgow is popular as one of Glasgow landmarks. It has a unique 'Hogwarts'y design similar to Harry Potter. Well, JK Rowling is from Scotland, maybe this building inspired her a lot. This was my second time visiting Kelvingrove museum. It's still look the same. It was raining heavily that day. We had to spent our time longer waiting outside the museum until the rain stopped.

Street School Museum was quite creepy especially with the statues of school boys & girls located along the corridors. But it's still interesting to visit as we could experience sitting in old classroom and kitchen. We wanted to try the costumes but they were too small.. >.<

I'll write about Manchester and Edinburgh in another post.

I love my family so much like I always had.. =p

Bowling Time!

Last Thursday, after having a mouthful Chinese buffet food at Panda, The Quay, I joined my friends playing bowling at AMF Bowling which is located just across the restaurant. Despite my busyness with assignments and presentation, I still managed to steal some time to have fun with them. Even though we had eaten at Panda last month, this time was quite different. Usually we went for lunch buffet, but today we had evening buffet instead. It's a bit more expensive than lunch, but quite satisfying because the food served was more variable. They served more seafood like prawns and mussels.

We played bowling for about 3 hours from 9.30 pm till 12.30 am. It's like OMG! Played until bored. However, it's quite worthy since we only paid £8 for the whole 3 hours. It's a Thursday special promotion. Sangat berbaloi! You know, it's been a while since I last played bowling. In Malaysia also, I rarely play bowling except once in a blue moon.

Tonight's plan was planned by Alex, Chei Wan, Wanli & Farrah. My flatmates and I only decided to join in the very last minute. We booked two lanes; 4 and 3 pax respectively. First we warmed up for the first two rounds before the games got very serious. The more we played, the tighter the scores be. It was definitely fun especially when we saw Alex accidentally threw the ball backwards. Luckily the ball didn't hit anyone. Lol

Wanli lead the scoreboard with >100 for every sets he played! Terer sangat! I played so-so je. Not so good though.

We finished our games when the staff told us that the place gonna close soon. Macam kena halau gitu. We were kinda the last persons who left the place that night.

What a fun and enjoying night! Sangat puas dapat main bowling without any restrictions and limitations!

Alhamdulillah..
=)

*sorry for the low quality image, I didn't bring my big camera.. XD

Malaysian Scottish Games | Edinburgh

Last weekend I joined a trip to Edinburgh to watch the Malaysian Scottish Games which is conducted annually by Malaysian students there. Since I'm here for one year only, so I decided to go there to take some photographs because I'm not really in to sports. Wanji and I took bus on Friday night and spent a night at Karim's house. He was our senior back then in IMU. The other student from Glasgow took train in the next morning.

This sports festival was held at Meadowbank Sports Centre which is reachable by bus from Karim's place. We arrived at the stadium at around 9 am and met the others there. Futsal games started at 11 am, so  we watched badminton tournament first. Lots of people entered the gmaes such as Faiz & Julia, Abg Nukman, Abg Sharifuddin & Abg Ikram etc.

When the futsal started, I jumped from one game to another to capture photos. Some times I was near the futsal arena, and some times I spent my time in the badminton court. The weather was extremely windy and cold. The breeze kept on attacking my face bringing sands along. =.=

Nothing much I did here except taking photos. We had lunch at the lounge. Some Malaysians opened their booths here selling Malaysian cuisines ranging from nasi lemak, nasi ayam, nasi hujan panas, cendol, karipap, popiah and many more. I ended up buying nasi hujan panas and it was gooooddddd. It was served with ayam masak merah and veggies.

Some of the games results were out already with Faiz & Julia won second place in mixed double badminton and other Glasgow players also won in men's double and men's single although the futsal team didn't make it to the top 3.

I didn't get the chance to watch other games such as basketball, dota, congkak and squash. Maybe I'll watch them in the next Malaysian Glasgow Games.. =)

We spent the rest of our day walking around the city, entering shops by shops. And one of the compulsory shop to visit was Forbidden Planet! It's a toy shop. There is one in Glasgow and Manchester. But the one in Manchester is way bigger and the toys are much cheaper than any other places. I grabbed a Harry Potter Lego set.

My lovely Lego! Tapi mahal! Benci kau!

While waiting for our bus to Glasgow, we had a coffee time at Costa, Princess Mall. After one hour or so we headed to Edinburgh Bus Station to catch our bus.

Badminton Tournament

Hi guys! Miss me?

*bajet perasan, sape je yang baca blog ni kan....*

Today I'm writing about a badminton tournament which I was involved last Saturday. Kejadah sangat join badminton tournament kan! Bersukan pun jarang2 sekali.
However, I joined the badminton tournament not as a contestant, but as a photographer instead. Komuniti Malaysia Glasgow (KMG) in conjunction with us had organised a tournament where anybody could joined this game, not only limited to Malaysians. This event was called

KMG-GlabNet Badminton Championship 2011

There were 14 teams; from Malaysia, China, Hong Kong and Pakistan. It's a men's double event and this game was held at Badminton Academy, Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

We went there by train from Glasgow Central Low Level to Scotstounhill. Then we walked about 15 minutes to reach the academy.

During the first round, each team played a 30-point game before they entered semi-final. We had booked 3 courts for today's matches. The organisers which were us were dressed in blue or pink Adidas t-shirts. Some of the organisers such as Abang Nukman, Abang Azrik, Wanli & Faiz also took part in the game. So the rest of us left to become empires, linesman, photographer, food distributors and point collectors.

The match started at 11 am and finished at around 4 pm. Lunch was sponsored by KMG which was fried fettuccine (Malay style) with fried egg and cucumber slices. It was yummy! Yela, Layang-layang Cafe masak kan sedap! =D

The champion was a pair from Pakistan, followed by Hong Kong team and the third place went to Abg Sharifuddin & Abg Ikram. Wahh, orang veteran memang hebat tau main badminton. Abg Nukman as the president of KMG gave a quick speech before proceeding with the award ceremony. The winner got medals and Yonex t-shirts while 2nd and 3rd place received medals.

Fuhhh, what a tiring day. It's really made me drowsy during the tournament maybe because I'm not so into sport. Huaaaaaa.... ZzZz~
