Glasgow to Philadelphia

Currently, Glasgow is still undergoing a filming for World War Z. For this purpose, Glasgow is turned into Philadelphia for about 2 weeks. This film stars Brad Pitt but I am not lucky enough to met him in person. *berangan je la*

The traffic in city centre, mainly around George Square is affected significantly with road closure and diversion. Most of the props we brought all the way here such as American cars, cabs, SWAT van, fire truck, hot dog stands, traffic light and also signboards.

Here are some photos which I captured during my visit to city centre.

Hihihi, tak pernah pergi US pun, dapat merasa suasana US di Glasgow.. Tapi ramai gila orang kat sana sini...

Iftar Jami'i

13th Ramadhan

Komuniti Malaysia Glasgow (KMG) was hosting a big iftar for all Malaysians in Glasgow. Despite having exams, me and my few friends attended the iftar which was held at Victoria Hall, Govanhill. As usual, we tumpang ustaz's car to reach there.

The hall is located near ustaz's house.. Just a walking distance. We had prepared some potluck which were brownies and cheesy baguette with mushroom soup.

our potluck!

setting up the hall

At around 7 pm, the event started with an introduction speech by Dr. Nukman followed by tazkirah by a sheikh from Egypt. The tazkirah was about the meaning of one of the surah in al-Quran.

tazkirah session

By the way, my housemates and I plus Bee and Aleen were in charged of food distribution. The main dishes were nasi briyani and lamb. Other brought their potlucks such as bubur lambuk, fried chicken, sandwiches, pudding, samosa, cheesecakes and kuih-muih. There were really a huge amount of food served!

briyani and lamb came in big pots!

A lot people came as well. I think more than 50.. Maybe around 70-80 including children.. Zakat counter was also opened here. This was my first time paying zakat myself. Usually my father will pay for me at Malaysia. But the rate here is different, so better I pay it myself. The rate is £3 per person.

We broke our fast at 9.03 pm with dates and water first, then pray Maghrib jemaah. After the pray, the food distributors took their places and getting ready with the senduk. Then other people queued up to get their food, just like in asrama.. =p

potlucks

We served until no more people in the queue. I was happy serving people, especially during this holy month of Ramadhan where our pahala will be multipled. Alhamdulillah...

After Tarawikh prayer, ustaz sent us home. It was quite a tiring evening, so we made sure we got enough rest because tomorrow we had to study for exams. We also brought some food home so that we didn't need to cook for sahur.

*I didn't take many photos during this event..

Iftar Bujang

8th Ramadhan

Iftar ni dah lama dah dulu.. Tapi baru teringat nak blogging sebab busy nak exam.. Tadi exam pun agak susah dan mencabar segala organ badan ni.. Seriauuu~

Ini merupakan iftar pertama kami di luar selain daripada Central Mosque and Sumsa. Bila dah dijemput oleh Alip and the gang, rasa excited pulak. Iftar ini berlangsung di rumah ustaz Asyraf di belakang library Strathclyde University. Jalan kaki 7 minit je dah sampai.

Sebelum bertolak, I dengan housemates prepare some dishes. Oleh sebab Alip kata dia nak masak nasi tomato, maka acar jelatah la companion dia kan. Alip prepare nasi & ayam masak merah, kami buat acar je. Senang je kot.

Resipi Acar Jelatah:

- timun
- lobak merah
- bawang besar
- nanas
- cili merah
- jus limau (menggantikan cuka)
- gula
- garam

1. Hiris sayur-sayuran menjadi batang mancis bersaiz gergasi. Bukan saiz batang mancis betul2, sebab kecil sangat.
2. Perah jus limau.
3. Tambah garam dan gula sebagai perisa.

Inilah hasilnya..

Mudah kan? Semudah ABC...

pemandangan tingkat 24.. memang indah..

Iftar bujang ni disertai oleh pelajar2 bujang di Strathclyde/Glasgow seperti tuan rumah sementara (Rahimi, Alip, Faiz), Joe, H3 (Wanji, Duwe & I) dan Iqmal and the gang. So 10 orang camtulah..

Rajin sungguh. Sedap jugak milkshake diorang..

Chef Alip di dapur - terlalu hebat sampai terblender sudu sekali.. melayang2 serpihan sudu ke udara..

oreo milkshakes.. rasa secawan, nak lagi dua cawan..

Mr.Kipling.. Joe bawak.. Joe bawak macam2, donat lah.. turn over lah.. puff lah.. semua sedap! =)

Ok, ini saja cerita iftarku.. Dekat sini takde bazaar Ramadhan.. So takdelah gambar2 juadah yang dibeli dari bazaar..

Pasni nak tulis pasal iftar jam'i pulak, iaitu iftar besar-besaran anjuran Komuniti Malaysia Glasgow.

Alhamdulillah..

=)
