Riverside Museum

Last Thursday, my housemates and I spent an evening at West End to have a short tour to a Riverside Museum nearby Joe's place.

Riverside Museum is located by the riverside at West End, Glasgow. This museum exhibits a wide variety of transport from older to newer days. It's just a 15-minute walking distance from Joe's house. The entrance is free and there is a souvenir shop inside where you can purchase postcards, keyrings, mugs, vehicle dies and many more items which are available from the shelves.

We spent about an hour or so inside this museum before we went to The TallShip. The entrance fee into the ship is £4.50 for students (normal price £5). The ship was amusing, it's quite huge with a lot of details on it. We could access into the decks, rooms and the engine room which is located at the lower part of the ship.

After we finished with the tour, we went back to Joe's place via Morrisons and Wau Cafe.

Penat sangat jalan2 muzium ni.. Tapi ini semua pengalaman kan, jalan2 di negara orang, harus explore tempat2 perlancongan sebanyak yang mungkin. =)

Berry Picking

Yesterday, me and my housemates plus Joe followed the postgraduates trip to East Yonderton Farm which is located at Renfrewshire near Glasgow. It is located just beside Glasgow Airport.

Since class test is coming up and we want to run from stress, we decided to join this trip. Plus, the transport was provided by them (precisely Ustaz Abduh). His car was kinda full, but we managed to sumbat2 inside it.

When we reached the farm, Abg Hamka & family, Iqmal and Bukhari were already there waiting for more people to come. When we entered the farm, there are many berry shrubs laying there waiting for us to pick their berries. Not only strawberries, other berries such as blackcurrants, redcurrants, raspberries and gooseberries could also be picked from this farm. The rule is after finish picking the berries, go to the entrance to weigh and pay.

We started with strawberries at the front then further back to raspberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries. The only thing that was tasty is the strawberries. The raspberries are kinda sour and tasteless, the blackcurrants are extremely sour and weird while the gooseberries are kinda okay if they are soft enough. The hard ones are sour as well.

After finished picking and paying, we had a picnic under a tree on the farm compound. The postgrads brought fried rice, fried noodles, nuggets, fries, sandwiches and biscuits. Kalau tau ada potluck, mesti kitorang pun prepare makanan. Huhu.. Then, Ustaz Abduh gave some tazkirah during the feast.

After that, rain poured heavily. I heard that city centre was also raining. We rushed to the car and headed back to the city.

Harry Potter - It All Ends

Wuwuwuwuu *crying*.. Ok, itu tipu!

Looks like Harry Potter film saga has just ended with happy and sad ending. As a loyal fan, I found out that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was quite amusing and all the questions from the previous movies were all answered in this final installment. However, I personally think that this movie duration should be longer, 2 hours and 10 minutes was quite short. Let's say my target is 2 and a half hour. It's should be great!

I watched this movie with my flatmates and also Alif, our senior at Cineworld, Renfrew Street which is just a 15-minute walk from our hall. The ticket price (student) for 3D movie is £6.60 while for 2D is £5.10. Well all went for 3D of course.

I'm not going to review about this movie but just want to share some favourite scenes and also the scenes that I didn't like.

Favourite scenes:

- McGonagall fight Snape by using orange fiery spell where it bounces when Snape shield it. It bounces directly to two Death Eaters (presumably Alecto and Amycus Carrow) standing behind Snape and kill them. Padan muka kau!

- All fighting/dueling scenes. I love seeing colourful spells flying on the air. The battles damaged Hogwarts very badly.

- The chamber of secret. This scene was not in the book, but made it to the film. It's nice seeing the chamber of secret got revisited.

- Everytime the Horcrux are destroyed, I feel satisfied. Voldemort is getting weaker. Padan muka kau!

- Harry Potter plays hide-and-seek with Voldemort. Macam main kejar2 pulak.. Then Harry kena belasah dengan Voldemort; kena lempang, kena sepak & kena pijak. Barulah sadis sikit.

Not-so-favourite scenes:

- Harry takes quite a long time talking to the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw (The Grey Lady). Perlu ke adegan hantu merajuk2 tak nak bagitau Harry kat mana dia sorokkan the lost diadem tu??

- All fighting scenes should be longer. I want to see Hermione, Luna & Ginny fight Bellatrix before Molly kill her. But the way Bellatrix dies is so funny. She shrinks a bit before exploding. LOL.. In the book, Molly kill her by casting a spell which hits directly into Bellatrix's heart.

- The dead. Gonna miss Fred, Lupin and Tonks. Tapi apsal tetiba Lavender pun mati? Dalam buku takde cakap pun dia mati.. Cuma cedera dibelasah Fenrir je. Tapi dalam movie, Fenrir siap makan daging Lavender lagi sebelum Hermione tembak dia. *yuxsss*. Sayu tengok Lupin & Tonks mati bersama. Terpaksa Harry jaga anak korang, Ted Lupin yang tak muncul dalam movie.

- Oliver Wood only make a brief apprearance where he leads an aerial attack on a broomstick. Parvati Patil was cut from the movie but her twin Padma is still in there. Boleh pulak kembar kau tiba2 hilang kan..

- I want to see the professors battling the Death Eater. Prof Slughorn, Sprout and Trelawney are in the movie but none are seen in the fighting scene. Tiba2 je muncul masa dah habis lawan2 duduk sedih2 pasal orang mati. Salute to McGonagall, but the stone soldiers did not do much in fighting.

- The way Voldemort dies is quite not satisfying. I should be the Avada Kedavra spell rebounces to him. Not just tetibe wand retak2 and terpelanting.

Jumaat ni dah book tiket untuk 3D Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Edinburgh Trip

This marked our first trip outside Glasgow. We chose Edinburgh because it is the capital city of Scotland and we were hoping to see the beauty of the city. Edinburgh is famous for its castle which is located uphill.

We took bus from Buchanan Street Bus Station and the journey consume about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The ticket price is £9.70 open return (we can return to Glasgow anytime we want). During the journey, I telephoned Lady Gaga.. Eh silap, I called my parents who were in Johor at that time. So I got chance to talk to nenek, uncle and aunties as well. When we reached Edinburgh Bus Station, Aleen called Zulaikha to arrange a meeting place.

Our first destination was Calton Hill which locates a few amounts of monuments and historical achitecture. We climbed the stairs, climb the monuments and took photos with the mascots there. Mascots ke??? We tooks photos around the National Monument as well as Nelson Monument. We met Zulaikha here, our friend-becoming-tourguide for today. Surprisingly, she brought food for us! =)

Then, we headed to Princes Park to have a picnic-style lunch. We passed through Information Counter, Princes Mall and also Scott Monument. The field at the park is quite big. We took a spot under a tree and place our mats before proceeding with lunch. The girls brought fried rice, the boys brought egg-mayo sandwiches and Zulaikha brought panini and mango cheese cake. Semua sedap!

After done with lunch, we proceed to National Gallery of Scotland to see a huge collection of art. However, it's quite boring and we left the place as soon as we got in. Plus, we weren't allowed to take photos inside the gallery. So, no point going in further more.

Edinburgh Castle was our next attraction. We climbed the hill and walked through a crowd to go to the castle. The entrance fee is £15 but none of us went inside the castle. We just took photos from the outside and at the red telephone booth there.

We dropped by kilt and tartans exhibition shop to observe the history and process of making kilt and tartans. There's a lot of things can be bought from here such as kilt, suits, scarfs, t-shirts and souvenirs but most of us didn't buy any since Zulaikha would bring us to a cheaper shops.

We spent a few minutes in Camera Obscura - World of Illusions. Here, they locates many teasing mirrors which reflects our weird bodies. The souvenirs sold here are quite unique and high quality such as 3D postcards and many more.

We managed to find MacKie's ice-cream shops. MacKie's is a traditional Scottish ice cream and has a lot of flavours such as honeycomb, butterscotch, mint, cherry etc. I bought a single waffle ice cream at £2.20. It's a must try if you go here..

It's raining quite heavily soon after we finished eating our ice creams. So we changed into raining coats attire with umbrella. We reached National Museum of Scotland few minutes later. This place is so big! There's a lot of floors to be explored but after I finished the ground floor, I sat on a bench and went to sleep for a while. I was so sleepy and it's unbearable.

Zulaikha brought us to the mosque to perform our prayers. After that, we went to several souvenir shops to buy some postcards, t-shirts, magnets and keychains. We spent quite a long time here because we all rambang mata in selecting the right souvenirs.

We toured around the city for sightseeing including re-visited Princes Park to capture more photos because the weather was better now. The sun shone brightly now.

Our last destination for today was University of Edinburgh. We took jumping photos here before we headed back to the mosque for prayer. Before that, we bought briyani rice from Kebab Mahal for our dinner later. It's true that's this shop sells a very nice nasi briyani specially lamb!

We took 11 pm bus back to Glasgow and the journey was very noisy and hectic. People in the bus sang loudly like they were drunk. OMG, we were feeling a bit insecure but alhamdulillah we managed to reach our hall safely.
